OROVILLE Royalty coronation at 7 p.m. Friday, May 10, will kick off the 79th annual May Festival.
Queen Shelby Scott was selected in February. Her princess is Angela Nelson.
The coronation will be in the high school gym, 1008 Ironwood St., with a mini-parade following.
Scott is the daughter of Brad and Kim Scott. Nelson’s parents are Alan and Marcie Nelson.
The festival’s theme is “Paradise in the Valley.”
“Our 79th May Festival is truly an event that is worth celebrating and we look forward to seeing you in the parade,” the May Festival Committee said.
Saturday’s events start at 5 a.m. with registration for the bass tournament at Deep Bay Park on Lake Osoyoos off Deep Bay Road. A 6 a.m. start is planned, with weigh-in at 3 p.m.
A pancake breakfast will be served at 7 a.m. at the American Legion Hall, 314 14th Ave., and check-in for the 35th annual fun run also will be at 7 a.m. The run starts at 8 a.m. on Appleway.
Basketball players can hoop it up with a 3-on-3 tournament from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the high school tennis courts. The Oroville Booster Club event’s signup deadline is May 6.
The farmers market will be from 9 a.m. to noon at the Oroville Public Library, 1276 Main St.
Mid-morning — 10 a.m. — brings the grand parade on Main Street. The parade will be followed by an awards ceremony and May Pole dance on the high school lawn.
Parade line-up is at 8:30 a.m.
“You’ll be given your line-up number that morning as you arrive,” the committee said. “Parade staff will be there to assist and give you direction. We would love to see a huge turnout of entries in our parade.”
All community businesses, clubs and organizations are encouraged to enter, organizers said.
“Bridging to the Past” presentations by the Okanogan County Historical Society run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Old Oroville Depot Museum, 1210 Ironwood St.
They include profiles of the Peerless Hotel, Prince’s Store, Zosel Lumber and the train to Oroville.
Meanwhile, the May Festival Car Show runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Prince’s Warehouse parking lot, 1412 Ironwood St.
Wine tasting is planned for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Okanogan Estates Wine and Gift Shop, 1205 Main St., from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Esther Bricques Winery, 38 Swanson Mill Road, plans a similar event from noon to 6 p.m., and Copper Mountain Vineyards will host a tasting from 1-5 p.m. at Taber’s Taste of Summer Fruit Stand, 33349 U.S. Highway 97.
Folks hungry for lunch can check out the Chamber of Commerce barbecue at 11:30 a.m. on the east lawn at the high school.
Children’s games are planned at noon on Ben Prince Field, behind the high school, by the Oroville Masonice Lodge.
A concert by the Okanogan International Chorus will be at 2 p.m. at the Free Methodist Church, 1516 Fir St.
Sunday activities include wine tasting from noon to 6 p.m. at Esther Bricques Winery at a golf tournament at 1 p.m. at the Oroville Golf Course, 3468 Loomis-Oroville Road.
