Remodeling planned for part of former Blockbuster building

— A Spokane contractor is seeking a city permit to remodel part of the former Blockbuster building at 208 S. Main St.

James W. Elmer Construction has proposed developing retail space, adding offices, new paint, flooring and other changes, City Administrator Ralph Malone said earlier this week. Part of the building currently houses Havillah Road Printing.

At this point, a business application has not been submitted for the proposed occupant, Malone said.

“No official document I have reveals the actual proposed tenant,” Malone said.

The application was submitted Oct. 14 and is awaiting the contractor's signature and a license to work in the city, Malone said.

Regardless of what business moves into the location, Malone said it is something positive for the city.

“It’s great to not have vacant buildings on Main Street,” he said.

The location was previously occupied by Blockbuster, which closed in July 2012.
