Green Okanogan sets e-cycling event
TONASKET – Green Okanogan plans a low-key recycling information and e-waste disposal event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 19.
Last year’s event included e-cycling, tours of earth-sheltered homes and other activities.
This year, the group will answer questions about recycling and the planned recycling center on Western Avenue, spokesman Peter James said.
The group hopes to buy a cardboard baler and set up a center on property at Western Avenue and Division Street.
Computer equipment and television sets can be recycled during the e-waste disposal.
Mills speaks about mission to India
OKANOGAN — A local man will speak about his two-year mission to India later this month.
Carson Mills, 25, is scheduled to return today from his mission trip to Bangalore, India.
Mills represented the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and helped to teach the people of India about the church. He also provided service to them.
Mills will speak at 9:30 a.m. April 20 at the church’s Omak ward, 6 Engh Road, Omak. He is the son of Matt and Lori Mills of Okanogan and a 2007 graduate of Okanogan High School.
Egg hunt fundraiser benefits basketball OMAK — An Easter egg hunt fundraiser for the Omak High School summer girls basketball program will be at 10 a.m. Satuday at East Omak Elementary School, 725 Omak Ave.
The hunt, for children up to age 12, has a fee for entry.
Grand prizes are a new bike or wagon. Multiple baskets also will be given.
Joe Cool helps Omak library celebrate
OMAK — Snoopy as Joe Cool is helping the Omak Public Library celebrate National Library Week on April 13-19.
The theme is “I Love to Read! There’s an adventure on every page.” A drawing for Joe Cool prizes and treats is planned, and free Joe Cool bookmarks will be available.
Kiwanians take orders for asparagus
OMAK – The Kiwanis Club’s annual fresh asparagus sale is under way.
The club is taking orders for 10-pound boxes of asparagus. The order deadline is May 2.
Proceeds go to support the club’s local youth projects.
Alta Vista charges irrigation lines
OKANOGAN – Alta Vista Irrigation District lines are being charged this week for the 2014 irrigation season.
The district serves the residential area north of the Okanogan County Courthouse.
Manager Brian Kirchner said all Alta Vista users need to close their drains and valves.
Democrats plan Saturday convention
OKANOGAN — Okanogan Country Democrats plan their county convention at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Grange Hall, 305 Tyee St.
People can weigh in on resolutions to shape the party platform and elect delegates for state convention.
