ACH finishes fifth in state 1B volleyball

— Almira/Coulee-Hartline topped Sunnyside Christian, 3-1, in the match for fifth- and sixth-place in the state 1B volleyball tournament Saturday in the SunDome.

ACH brought home the trophy over Sunnyside 25-22, 23-25, 25-19 and 25-13.

Pateros, also in 1B, won its opening match Friday over Evergreen Lutheran 23-25, 26-24, 25-19, 22-25, 15-10.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline also won Frfiday, blanking Three Rivers Christian 25-18, 25-11, 25-8,

In the state quarterfinals, Mount Vernon Christian beat Pateros 23-25 25-22, 25-9, 25-15 and Pomeroy beat ACH 25-12, 25-18 and 26-24.

That set up a showdown between Pateros and ACH on Saturday, with the winner advancing to the trophy match while the other team was sent home.

ACH prevailed 25-18, 25-9, 24-26, 25-16.

In the 2B tournament, Wilbur-Creston eliminated Brewster, 3-2.

Wilbur-Creston advanced in the consolation bracket 22-25, 26-24, 21-25, 25-23 and 15-10.

Brewster fell into the consolation bracket by losing its state opener to La Conner, 25-16, 25-11 and 25-10.

The Bears reached the second day by eliminating Tri-Cities Prep 12-25, 25-22, 25-20 and 25-23.
