Chronicle wrong on mileage standards

A couple of weeks ago, The Chronicle ran an editorial saying that Obama era mileage standards should be reviewed and relaxed because American consumers wanted bigger cars, it would cost the car companies a lot of money to meet the new standards, and gas is so cheap, what the heck, let them have cars that use more gasoline. You never mentioned the downside of burning more fuel, in fact, you act as if there is no downside. The Earth’s atmosphere is actually very thin...
