Ellen Margaret Davis
August 4, 1916 - October 3, 2013
Ellen Margaret Davis, 97, went home to be with her Lord on Oct. 3, 2013, in Anderson, Calif.
Ellen was born on Aug. 4, 1916, in Venton, Iowa. She was born to Elmer and Esther Rice.
Ellen grew up in Venton, Iowa, and married George Davis, Sr., on June 28, 1932. They had four children, John, Marlene, George Jr. (Butch) and Kathleen.
Ellen was always a strong and determined woman. When her husband wanted to try his hand at mining, she and her young son packed up and moved to Lake Hughes, Calif., with her husband. They lived in a log cabin.
During WWII, she had three children to raise while her husband was gone for three years on a submarine in the South Pacific. At that time, she worked in a vitamin factory. In 1942, she was hired on at Sears and Roebuck and became a clothing inspector in the mail order department. Her starting salary was $.27 an hour.
She worked for Sears for 36 years and retired in 1978. In 1985, she moved with her daughter, Kathleen, and family to Omak, to help pioneer the Omak Foursquare Church. She was a charter member of that church.
In her late 70s, she started working again for Aging and Adult Care, working until January 2000 when she retired at the age of 84. She continued for several years to sit on the board as a community member up to age 90.
Ellen is survived by her daughters, Marlene Giesecke of Anderson, Calif., and Kathleen Lund of Omak, Wash.; and two daughters-in-law, Connie Davis of Weiser, Idaho, and Linda Davis of Sutherlin, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Davis Sr.; two sons, John Davis and George Davis, Jr.; her parents, Elmer and Esther Rice; two brothers, Delbert and Harlan Rice; one sister, Glennys Seely; and a great-grandson, Connor Brantner.
A memorial and luncheon will be held at Omak Foursquare Church at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013.
